SEO isn’t only relevant for your website and blog posts. In fact, YouTube, also owned by Google, has become the second largest search engine online. 

People search YouTube for information, like “How Do I Buy A House”, “How Can I Cancel MI”, “What Is A Mortgage”, just as they would on Google.

There are some simple steps you can take to help make your videos easier to find on YouTube.

First, use a good title when you post your video onto YouTube.  Titles are the best way to catch someone’s attention. You want to keep your title short, interesting and informative.  Not always easy.  Think about a top ten list.  Something like, “Three Things You Need to Know About Buying Your First Home” or “How to Beat a Cash Offer” will capture their attention and let them know what your video is about.  If it resonates with them and what they are searching for, then good chance they will click on your video.

The next thing you want to do is to have a good description of your video.  Tell viewers what you are going to cover in your video.  Give them a brief overview, just like you would if you were inviting someone to a workshop you were holding.  Remember to include your email address or website and you will want to include your licensing information like your NMLS numbers.

In addition to your title and description, your keywords are “key” to getting more views.  You will want to make sure and plan your keywords, just like you would for any blog post. You can use the SE Ranking keyword suggestion tool or the YouTube keyword tool to find relevant keywords.

Add keywords to your video description and include a link to your website. Keep it to 70 characters on YouTube and help users to understand what your video is about.

Once you’ve captured their attention through a search, you want to get them to actually click on your video and eye-catching, professional thumbnails will do just that.  Make sure your thumbnails include a brief title of your video and include a photo of yourself for recognition and branding.
